Lan Xiao, founder of Tombstone: “The Paris Perfume Week is a wonderful platform to share our vision”

The second edition of Paris Perfume Week gives a voice to niche brands, like the young house Tombstone, created in 2024. The brand is inspired by the awareness of the inevitable. It invites reflection on life and celebrates the beauty and intensity of being human. Meet Lan Xiao, the founder and lead perfumer of the brand.

Could you introduce your brand in a few words?
Tombstone is a line of edgy perfumery creations born from an awareness of mortality. It tells stories of life and death with defiant humor, and it also has a sense of disenchantment to offer. Every fragrance is designed by an independent perfumer, each expressing their personal perspective on the inevitable.

What do you think makes it unique?
First and foremost, Tombstone is bold. It breaks taboos and challenges fears surrounding death, offering a thought-provoking narrative with a positive spirit, while pushing the boundaries of what perfume can express.

Secondly, its distinctive scents and artisanal approach are special. Each perfume is created independently and freely, allowing perfumers to tell their own stories and visions of life and death. They have no preset story or budget limits. Many of Tombstone’s fragrances embrace contrasting combinations—such as the interplay of decay and sweetness in Sweet Coffindisrupting traditional “safe” structures to create something immersive and unique. The genuine expressions make Tombstone intriguing, empowering, and, above all, human.

Additionally, Tombstone offers unique bottle designs with handcrafted artistry. The brand uses tombstone as the element to align the look, the storytelling, and the olfactory experience. Each tombstone-shaped bottle is uniquely textured and colored to reflect its fragrance, with handcrafted surfaces ensuring that no two are ever identical, just like no two people are the same.

What will be your highlights during Paris Perfume Week?
At Paris Perfume Week, we will present Tombstone in a curated display that merges its signature aesthetics with its distinctive olfactory creations. The brand will also participate in the olfactory challenge on the opening night, which we are very excited about!

What are your expectations for your participation in our event?
This will be Tombstone’s first appearance at Paris Perfume Week, and we see it as an opportunity to continue introducing our creations to the industry, the community, and new audiences. It’s also a wonderful platform to share our vision, connect with like-minded creators and artists, and foster deeper conversations about the power of scent. This will also be Tombstone’s debut in Paris – a city that blends traditional artistry with contemporary avant-garde trends. We hope to spark new inspirations and exchanges with Paris and Parisians alike.
